Sleeping Duck was founded in 2014 by engineers Winston Wijeyeratne and Selvam Sinnappan and is now one of Australia’s fastest growing startups - and that’s particularly unique because we design our own concept products entirely in house.

Marketing & Creative @ Sleeping Duck

Our in-house Marketing & Creative team has taken Sleeping Duck from a little-known start-up to a household name in a few short years.

In the past 12 months, we’ve expanded and diversified our reach to advertise on all channels - 'above the line' - radio, TV, billboards and digital channels - Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Podcasts, growing Sleeping Duck’s prompted brand awareness to 61% of all Australians.

When you're not snoozing in our massage chairs, this is what you'll be doing

This role is a one-of-a-kind in the marketing space where you will be directly working with both traditional and digital media. We are looking for someone who has experience with TV and radio media planning and buying.

As our Media Buying Specialist you will be working independently on identifying growth opportunities as well as coming up with and implementing media plans. On the implementation side, you will be responsible for buying our offline media (TV, radio) and our digital media (facebook / Insta). You will also be analysing and reporting on growth performance across all channels. This is a hands-on role with some high level supervision involved - so there’ll be plenty of opportunity for you to showcase your skills and contribute to the growth of the business.

Your focus will be on ensuring that our ads reach high quality target audiences, whilst optimising for the most cost efficient media prices. We already have strong relationships setup with our media partners - you will be responsible for the ongoing negotiation of rates and buying of advertising inventory. You will also be in charge of managing the spend in our digital advertising platforms. The Meta side will also include implementing our ad creatives and ensuring they are displayed correctly.

Initially, you can expect to focus your energy on:

  • Learning the business and building your understanding of how we operate
  • Help identify target audiences and plan media campaigns
  • Compare and negotiate rates, ad space and airtime directly with our media partners
  • Optimise plans and budgets according to the best media mix
  • Prepare media schedules and adjust when needed
  • Experiment with new platforms and channels
  • Ensure ads are creative and displayed appropriately
  • Monitor costs and return on investment (ROI)
  • Manage ad implementation, delivery, segmentation and budgets
  • Report on both above the line and digital channels

This position is open to Full-time and Part-time applications.

People who we’d love to work with

  • Experience with TV and radio media buying
  • A curious and hungry person
  • Interest in following advertising and media trends
  • Experience with Excel - and if you know SQL - major bonus!
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills - the ability to find a deal and say no.
  • Bonus if you have experience in either the traditional media landscape or using digital advertising platforms such as FB or Google
  • Strong relationship building skills with the ability to form genuine bonds
  • Experience in planning and research
  • Knowledge of media & website analytics tools (FB/Google Analytics) preferred
  • Strong analytical, organisational and multitasking skills
